Artificial Intelligence :

So what do you mean by Artificial Intelligence ? Or, what is Artificial Intelligence ? Let’s break it down to understand it better. First, let’s talk about the term ‘ artificial ’, artificial means something that is not made by mother nature, or we can say that it used to denote a man-made entity. For example, artificial light. All the lighting solutions that are made by man comes under the category of artificial light, whereas, sun light is a natural source of light i.e. it is not made by man.

Now let’s talk about intelligence. What is intelligence ? How can we achieve intelligence ?

To understand intelligence better, we have to first learn about its predecessors like data and information. Data can simply be termed as raw facts and figures; data alone is meaningless. Data is then worked up (processed and refined, or summarized) to form information. Therefore, we can say that, information is meaningful data. Then comes knowledge, which is a collection of information stored for future referencing. And finally when this stored information (knowledge) is verified then it leads to the formation intelligence.

The best way to understand what intelligence is, is to go through the phase,” learning from your mistakes”.  When we commit a mistake, we tend to remember it and whenever the same circumstances arise we recall it and avoid it repeat it, learning from our past experience. This is called intelligence. And with time our intelligence increases or it grows.

So, if we bring this all together then we can conclude this,” Artificial Intelligence is something that has been created by man, which can store some verified information and can also recall it whenever required to perform a specific task”. And this definition is actually quite close to its actual meaning, which is,” Artificial Intelligence is a computer software program which stores information and uses this stored information to perform various tasks in the future”. And these AIs uses various self-learning algorithms to store & recall this information whenever needed.

The best example of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ comes from the Sci-Fi movie,” Iron Man”. Where the lead character, Tony Stark, has developed himself a personal voice guided software assistant, J.A.R.V.I.S. (Just A Rather Very Intelligent System). And this J.A.R.V.I.S. has learnt many things about Mr. Stark over time such as his favorite music genre, his sense of humor, it can also keep track of Mr. Stark’s meeting for him and every other stuff imaginable.

And inspired from this Mr. Mark Zuckerberg (CEO & Founder of Facebook) has also created or coded his own version of J.A.R.V.I.S.  and many tech giants are also working on this technology, like Google, Apple, Microsoft, etc. Google has Google Assistant, Apple has Siri and Microsoft has Cortana. These are all AI programs designed to serve as a personal assistant for their users.
