How to Search Engine Optimization

Meta tags are used to provide structured data about a web page. You’ll hear them referred to often as meta tags, title tags, and description tags. They are located in the head of your web page document. Top Search Engine Optimization professionals use tools such as title generators to maximize optimization.

The Title tag

This is the single most important element of a page. It is not only read by search engines, but it is also what Internet users see as the link that brings them to your site. The title tag should describe your web page and contain keywords. Like the page title, it should be limited to six words and be unique to that page.

The Description tag

A description tag is a short sentence that tells people what your site is about. It should be no longer than a hundred characters. When it comes to the content of the description tag, it is used by search engines as well to try to fill in that blank. The description tag should also be unique to that page and contain keywords. Just like the page title, it is limited to a maximum of 150 characters.

Keyword tag

The keywords tag is not as important as it used to be. It is still used by some search engines. It is not, however, as critical to SEO as it once was. It is simply another way for search engines to find out what your site is about. As well as keywords, search engines can also check to see if your title tag contains keywords. If so, your site will show up in the search results for those words.

Choosing Keywords

To get the most out of your title tags, it is still necessary to choose keywords that a searcher is likely to type into a search engine. This is not an easy task. You need to look at your site as it was created. What is the main theme? Usually, this will be the phrase or words that will be used as the search phrase. Then put these phrases in your title tags. It is best to limit your title tags to six words or less.

You can get some help in the form of Overture. They have a free online keyword tool that will help you choose the best keywords for your site. You can also use Google AdWords. Just sign up for a free AdWords account and find your best keywords. After that, type in the phrases that best describe your website. The tool will provide you with valuable statistics and help you choose the best keywords.

H1 and H2 Headers

Headers are used to emphasize important topics or lines of your copy. The theory is that the closer you have the keywords to the beginning of the page or post, the more important the search engines deem it to be. You can use H1 and H2 with the keywords you want to focus on. Simply use the “H” tag for headlines and the “S” tag for subtitles.

Images

If you are using images, you need to use the keywords for the images as well. Search engines can see the images and they can tell them what the image is.

However, if you use a non-descriptive or generic image, it won’t hold any weight. For example, if you are using an image of the amount of money, you should use a descriptive title tag. The title tag should have the name of the image and contain the keywords you want to rank for.

Linking

If you make sure that you have internal links within your site that link to pages with relevant and related content, you will hold more weight with the search engines. Make sure that you have descriptive anchor links that include the keywords you are trying to rank for. Make sure that the links are using the text that you want to rank for. Search engines will see that the links lead to relevant content. This will help your site rank for that particular keyword phrase.

Understanding all of this may seem a daunting task. However, you can hire someone to help you optimize your site for search engines. This will allow you to get your site off of the ground and provide you with the traffic you need to actually make money.

If you have not optimized your site, you are missing out on the potential of making money. Search engine optimization will provide you with the greatest return on your investment of time.
